We came across this article today and it caused us to reflect upon our own thoughts about the future of WordPress. IMO the future looks bright with lots of potential for new functionality and features.
The Future of WordPress from a Developer’s Perspective
A few things are abundantly clear just based upon what Automattic has invested in over the past couple of years:
- The WordPress REST API is going to lead to some amazing new plugins.
- ECommerce functionality is going to improve due to WordPress’ purchase of Woocommerce.
- The future of theme development is JavaScript, not PHP.
